When I read how easy it was to do, I knew I could tackle this little DIY project. After the paint is dry you need to figure out what message you want to display on the pots. Since these were meant for the outdoor entrance, “Home sweet home” seemed like a great choice.

Grab 2 of these from the Dollar Tree! If you can’t find those, ANY plastic flower pots will work. I would just pick one that has some grooves and/or texture to it like this. The thicker the wire, the more noticeable it is sticking out from the flowers. The thinner wire works nice being able to thread through many of the beads. To stabilize the vertical pots, place a stake through a couple terracotta pots and then into the base of a larger pot filled with dirt.

Brush your hands off and you are done! You have a simple DIY stacked flower planter for your front porch or steps. It was a lot easier than painting and was done in two coats.

Place the plastic planter pot upside down and plant your annuals around it.Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the second and third tier. The first thing you’ll need to do is wipe the pots clean. Then take some painter’s tape and mask off the inside rim of the pots. The interior should not be painted because the soil and the plants will go directly into the pots. In this case black paint was sued but you can choose whatever color you like.

I will be the first to admit that I have do not have a green thumb. Every plant that I have ever owned, I have successfully killed. But that doesn’t deter me from trying again and again every spring.

If you want to save some paint while also avoid applying chemicals onto the soil you can leave the bottoms unpainted as well. Then cut out the letters and create a stencil. Use painter’s tape to adhere the stencil to the pots and start hand-painting the letters. Now that this part is done, you need to drill several holes in the bottom of the pots. Finally, add the soil and the plants and put them one on top of the other and you’re done.. These stacked flower pots show another great example of how to add height to your containers.
